Have you just started a company, or are you thinking about it? Perhaps you have already been running a company for a few years.

In that case, you have likely heard that you need to file your annual report with the Danish Business Authority and also submit your company's tax return to the Danish Tax Agency.

Companies are required to both file their annual report with the Danish Business Authority and subsequently complete and submit the tax return form (corporate tax return) to the Danish Tax Agency.

File your annual report

As mentioned, companies in reporting classes B, C, and D are required to file their annual report with the authorities. Once an annual report is filed, it becomes publicly available.

This allows the company's stakeholders to gain insight into whether the company is performing well or poorly.

It is also a way for the Danish Business Authority to monitor whether companies are complying with all the rules and laws that apply to them.

Companies have two different options for filing their annual report. One option is Regnskab Basis, and the other is called Regnskab Special.

Regnskab Basis

You can file your annual report with the Danish Business Authority using Regnskab Basis

Companies in reporting class B can file their annual report using the Danish Business Authority's dedicated program, Regnskab Basis. This is an entry-based solution where the user enters all accounting data manually. Once completed, you will receive your annual report in PDF format.

After that, it is time to have it approved and signed, and then you can file it through their program.

The program does not perform calculations for you, which means you must be able to handle several calculations yourself, including having an understanding of entertainment expense adjustments and other depreciation.

Regnskab Basis is therefore not a program that provides much assistance with your calculations. So, if you are neither an accountant nor a dedicated expert in accounting and finance, you risk making errors that could be problematic.

File your annual report with Regnskab Basis if you are confident in your accounting and tax calculations. You can do so by clicking here.

Regnskab Special

Companies in all reporting classes can also choose to file via the Danish Business Authority's Regnskab Special solution.

Unlike Regnskab Basis, Regnskab Special is not a data-entry solution where you follow the Danish Business Authority's workflow. Instead, it is a program where you upload an annual report that you have created in another program.

It is important that the program you used to generate the annual report creates your report in both XBRL and PDF formats. If you have a program that ensures your annual report is generated in the correct file formats, you simply need to upload the files and file your annual report that way.

In Regnskab Special, you must use a program capable of generating annual reports. Depending on the program you choose, you enter your figures into that program, and it then formats your annual report.

Which program should you choose?

It can sound like quite a mouthful to be responsible for your own calculations and entering your own figures, which you might not always fully understand.

But it doesn't have to be. There are programs available that help you with the legislation and guide you every step of the way, from bookkeeping to filing your annual report.

As mentioned above, there are programs that can generate your annual report for you. However, these programs vary in speed and in the level of expertise they require before you get started.

Regnskab Basis requires a good amount of prior knowledge, so it may be a good idea to consult an accountant if you choose that path.

Some of the programs that help generate annual reports in the correct file formats are designed for experts; they can be quite expensive to license and often offer a host of features you may never actually need.

We have a solution that automatically generates your annual report and helps you comply with the law.

We have the tool that generates your annual report without you needing to be an accountant or an expert.

Filing an annual report – when?

Indberet årsrapport 6 måneder efter sidste regnskabsdag
You must file your annual report 6 months after the end of the financial year.

You need to file your annual report one way or another. You can do it yourself using Regnskab Basis, go to an accountant, or use our automated tool, which enables you to do it yourself and automatically handles the calculations and compliance with all requirements.

But when exactly do you need to file your annual report?

A company in reporting class B must file its annual report no later than 6 months after the end of its financial year. This means that if your financial year ends on December 31st, your deadline for filing the annual report is June 30th.

Don't forget that you must also file the company's tax return with the Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen).

You must also remember to report the year's results to the Danish Tax Agency. The deadline for filing your corporate tax, among other things, is no later than 6 months after the end of your financial year. Considering the above, this means the deadline for filing with the tax authorities is June 30th. The deadline is therefore the same as for the annual report.

The tax return (oplysningsskema) is what was previously known as the tax declaration (selvangivelse) and functions in the same way as before. You simply need to provide a series of figures/amounts related to your company that affect taxation. These figures appear in the annual report, but at Reportability, you get extra help to ensure you enter the right numbers in the right places.
